Dear Craughwell Families,

Troy Craughwell cordially invites Troy Craughwell Sons and their Mother (or 1 special adult female guest, grandmother, aunt, stepmother) to the Mother Son Date Night Dance. This will be a formal dress event. Boys find your ties and polish your shoes, and Mom find that perfect dress and jewelry! There will be dancing, refreshments, and a photo souvenir. The cost is $12 a couple and $2 for each additional son. Reservation and money due no later than Friday, October 20, 2017.

Last week, we held two drills. On Tuesday, we practiced an intruder drill. On Friday, we had a fire drill. The Joliet Fire Department was present for the fire drill and the kindergartners got fire helmets!

Craughwell staff and students will be participating in Operation Care Package to support our troops overseas. As part of Operation Care Package, we will be collecting donations of nonperishable items and sending them to Afghanistan, Iraq, and other countries around the world. Additionally, Craughwell students will be writing letters and making cards to send to the troops. If you are interested in donating items, please see the list below and send in the items with your child or deliver them to Craughwell’s front office.

We have been collecting Box Tops all year. Each trimester, one classroom from each grade will receive a prize for the most Box Tops collected. Classrooms will have 3 chances to win! The deadlines for three contests are November, 10, 2017, February 23, 2018, and May 18, 2018. Collect those Box Tops from your own home and ask friends and families to save them as well!

Mrs. Mahalick, aka The Bugsmasher, has asked me to include a note regarding internet safety. As the use of internet continues to grow for students in both academic and personal time, so does the possibility that students may encounter questionable and inappropriate material. It is recommended that you check your child’s history and discuss with them your expectations of their time and videos they watch when online.

As the school year progresses, students are getting into the routine of arrival and dismissal. With this familiarity, we are able to load and dismiss buses sooner. Since the buses are leaving our parking lot sooner, they will be arriving to your child’s bus stop sooner as well. Kindergarten students cannot be dismissed from the bus unless there is someone there to receive them. If you have a kindergartner, please try to be at the bus stop earlier. If any students are returned to the school at the end of the school the new $75 Late Pickup Policy will be enforced. Older siblings are allowed to take their Kindergarten sibling off the bus with them, but if there is not an older sibling there must be someone at the stop to receive the Kindergartner. Please be at the stop a few minutes before the scheduled time to ensure you are there before the bus.

Students have the opportunity to purchase a hot lunch and breakfast everyday at Troy Craughwell. You may add funds to your child’s food service account electronically through your Skyward account or by sending money to school with your child(ren). Students are served an “emergency lunch” once their food account goes below -$15.00. There is no “emergency breakfast.” Mrs. Barker or I call home with a courtesy reminder when a student’s account is near or past this -$15.00 threshold. Please remember to check your child’s account balance regularly. If you have any questions about adding funds electronically, please call the office at 815-577-7313.

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
